Michael Strahan is NOT refusing to have Kelly Ripa appear as a celebrity contestant on his new game show, “$100,000 Pyramid,” despite a phony tabloid report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct this claim. We’re told it’s not true.
Of course, there was tension between Strahan and Ripa earlier this year when he abruptly left their morning talk show to become an anchor on “Good Morning America.” The two have since patched things up, but Life & Style is now trying to baselessly keep the drama going. Strahan is hosting a revival of the classic ABC game show “Pyramid,” which has a contestant and celebrity partner team up in the word-association game. And now the tabloid is claiming Strahan won’t allow his former “Live” co-host to appear as a guest.
The magazine’s so-called “source” claims Strahan told producers, “Over my dead body” when they pitched Ripa as a celebrity contestant. “Michael was incensed the network would even suggest it,” adds the outlet’s questionable insider. “Michael’s still bitter about the way Kelly treated him.” The publication’s supposed source further claims the former NFL player “agrees it could be good for ratings to have [Ripa] on ‘Pyramid,’ [but] he’s not willing to work with her again.” Adds the tabloid’s “source,” “Michael told his bosses that as long as he’s hosting ‘Pyramid,’ Kelly will not appear on the show.”
But Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Strahan, who exclusively tells us this story couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, we’re told “Kelly was asked to be on the show but couldn’t because of a scheduling conflict.” Additionally, network executives didn’t push Ripa on Strahan at all because he’s one of the show’s producers and “has a say in the guests,” notes our insider. And finally, we’re assured Ripa “has an open invitation to come on next season.”
